The roads were still fairly primitive in the early 1900s and getting stuck was not uncommon. In this circa 1920s photograph, Winslow residents (left to right) David Figg, Gus Hanson, Joseph LeChance and Bill Kelly looked happy, but a little worse for wear after their car was pulled from a flooded wash. En route to the Hopi Snake Dance held on the Hopi reservation north of Winslow, they were stranded four days. For more information on Winslow’s rich history, visit www.oldtrailsmuseum.org.
