Centerfielder Mireya Ulibarri has signed a letter of intent to play softball at South Mountain Community College, according to WHS Coach Becky Barris.
Ulibarri is a senior and was a standout in her highly successful junior year with the Arizona State 3A Conference Champion Winslow Lady Bulldogs. She will be joining two of her high school teammates for her first year of community college softball.
Two Lady Bulldogs who played with Ulibarri and for Barris on the state championship team signed with South Mountain Community College after their senior year. Jennifer Yazzie was one of the team’s leading hitters and the ace pitcher for that fine team. Bernice Gover was one of the premier hitters on the team, and a fine defensive player at both first base and in the outfield.
Ulibarri figures to be a key player for the Lady Bulldogs this season as the team works to defend its state championship. She played an important role in the team’s offensive attack last season as a good hitter with speed, the capability to handle the bat well and a good base runner. She plays a vital defensive position, and has both the speed and judgment, and a sting throwing arm to make her a good centerfielder.
She is looking forward to joining her friends and former teammates at SMCC and finding success at the next level of competition.
