Hosting Winslow, Window Rock and Chinle last Saturday in a four-team dual wrestling meet, the Holbrook Roadrunners went 3-0 as a team. The Birds defeated Winslow in a close match 30-28, then soundly defeated Window Rock 57-24 and thoroughly dominated Chinle, winning that match 60-18.
“This was a positive way to end our regular season. I was happy with the way we wrestled. We still have some things to work on before sectionals, but I am excited to see how well our wrestlers will do at sectionals,” said Coach John Bokker.
Six Holbrook wrestlers won all three of their matches, including RJ Alvarado, Drew Shumway, Josh Hatch, Shem Bowman, James Self and Nikko Ferniza. Caleb McClellan, Kyle Lester and Reuben Kee went 2-1. Mathew Cano and Shawn Gillespie each won one of their three matches. Kevin Self lost his only match.
Holbrook will host the sectional qualifying tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 5.
