Gilbert J. “Gibby” Lopez, 61, passed away at his home in Winslow on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winslow, with Father Frank Chacon officiating. Interment followed in Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
He was born on May 2, 1949, in Winslow, and graduated from Winslow High School in 1967.
Gilbert was employed for 10 years by Babbitt’s Supermarket, and also owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station on Route 66.
He enjoyed buying, selling and restoring vintage vehicles. He was an avid fisherman and boater, and enjoyed being at the creek.
Survivors include his two sons, Michael Webster and Paul Lopez; four grandchildren; one brother, Guadalupe Lopez Jr.; two sisters, Irene (Boney) Candelaria and Sandra Reyes; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Virginia Lopez.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
