Holbrook native Mike Budenholzer has been selected as head coach of the West squad for the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam slated at 6 o’clock (PST) tonight (Feb. 18) at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
Budenholzer, a 1988 graduate of Holbrook High School, is the lead assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs, and thus will join Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich on the West bench for the NBA All-Star Game at 5 p.m. (PST) on Sunday, Feb. 20, also at Staples Center. Both games will be televised on cable channel TNT.
The All-Star coaches were determined by the best record in each conference for games played through Feb. 6.
Budenholzer was born in Holbrook, the youngest of Vince and Libby Budenholzer’s seven children.
Vince Budenholzer was a basketball coach at HHS, and that helped Mike develop an understanding of the game.
