The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Coolidge Bears 68-50 in a first round game of the Arizona State 3A Conference Basketball Tournament played in Winslow last Saturday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 27-6 for the season and ended Coolidge’s season with a 14-10 record.
The Bulldogs led 18-11 after the first quarter, but the Bears fought back in the second period to cut the margin to 27-25 at the half. Winslow had a huge third quarter and a commanding 52-32 advantage going into the final period.
Eli Birdshead led all scorers with 19 points for Coolidge, but was the only Bear in double figures.
Winslow had three players in double digits led by Tyler Williams with 15 points. Kraig Shirley and Jevon Estelle added 13 each, and Tremayne Nez scored nine for the victors.

The Bulldogs were to meet Blue Ridge at Prescott on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs defeated Blue Ridge at the Blue Ridge Tournament, but the Yellowjackets defeated Winslow to win the Cake Shootout in Winslow. Blue Ridge edged Parker 62-60 to reach the quarterfinals.
Other games completed on Saturday included Snowflake over Safford, 77-58, Window Rock over Estrella Foothills, 61-54, and Fountain Hills over Payson, 62-40.
