The Lady Lobos won that game and the tournament. Elkins’ 12 points helped them edge Coolidge in the first round of state tourney play last weekend.

Survive and advance is basically the motto for any team playing in the state tournament, and that is ex-actly what the Lady Lobos did last Friday night when they advanced with a 48-46 home court win over Cool-idge. The eighth seeded Lady Lobos didn’t have a lead all night until the final two minutes of the game, then they traded buckets with the Lady Bears until finally coming out on top inside the final minute.

Coolidge led by seven at the close of the first period and still held a four-point lead at the half. Both teams played close in the third, then in the fourth the Lady Lobos flipped the tables and outscored Coolidge by seven in the final eight minutes to get the win and advance to face Window Rock on Monday.

Reagan Godfrey led the team with 18 points. Natalie Elkins added 12, Alex Merrell, 6, Lisha Titus, 5, Brylee Copeland, 4, Tara Nezzie, 2, and Devrie Woodside, 1.

Coolidge 16 8 13 9 46

Snowflake 9 11 12 16 48

If the Lady Lobos were able to get past top ranked Window Rock on Monday, they would be in the semi-finals for the second year in a row, where they would face either Estrella Foothills or Safford. A loss to the Lady Scouts would bring an end to their season.
