The Lobos may be on a roll at the right time of the season. Hosting ninth seeded Safford on Saturday night in the first round of the state playoffs, the eighth seeded Lobos cruised to a 79-56 win to advance to the second round. Snowflake outscored the Bulldogs in each quarter and lit up the scoreboard with 27 third quarter points.
Michael Bonham led all scorers with a 30-point performance. Trent Hall added 19, Chase Walden, 15, Tanner Yellowhair, 5, Jake Shumway, 4, Trevor Reddick and Derek Flake, 2 each, and Dustin Baldwin and Dallin Merrell, 1 each.
Safford 10 17 19 10 56
Snowflake 18 19 27 15 79
At press time the Lobos were awaiting word on the winner of the game between top seeded Holbrook and 16th seed Sedona, which had to be played on Monday afternoon due to weather postponing Saturday’s game. Either way the Lobos were slated to play the winner last night in Prescott. If they get past that game, they will face either Winslow or Blue Ridge in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 25. If they keep winning they will be in the title game, which will be played on Saturday night at Glendale Arena.
