The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets 67-57 in a quarterfinal game of the Arizona State 3A Conference Basketball Tournament played in Prescott Valley on Tuesday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 28-6 for the season and ended Blue Ridge’s season with a 22-8 record.
The Bulldogs held a 15-14 lead after the first period, but were up 35-26 at the half. Kraig Shirley hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to extend the margin to nine. He also canned another three-pointer for the last score of the third quarter, which gave Winslow a commanding 51-37 advantage.
Shirley led all scorers with 29 points for Winslow. Jevon Estelle was the only other Bulldog in double figures with 10 points.
Nick Johnson led Blue Ridge with 21 points and Cody Carlson followed with 10 points.
The Bulldogs will play Holbrook at 7:45 tonight (Feb. 25) at the Glendale Arena in a semifinal game. The other semifinal game will match Monument Valley and Fountain Hills. Holbrook defeated Snowflake 70-55 to reach the semifinals. Monument Valley defeated Window Rock 73-53 and Fountain Hills topped Round Valley, 70-59.
