The Blue Ridge Yellowjackets held the Winslow Bulldogs to just two hits and defeated them 10-0 in a baseball game played last Thursday at Lakeside. The loss dropped Winslow’s record to 6-4 for the season.
Matt Smith took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. Johnnie Woods worked two innings in relief and gave up three runs, only two of which were earned, on two hits and three walks.
Blue Ridge scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits and a walk, then four more in the fourth on four more hits and an error. The final runs scored in the sixth inning on two hits and two walks, bringing the 10-run mercy rule into effect.
Jevon Estelle and Rhett Hardy were both one for three with Winslow’s only hits of the game.
The Bulldogs were slated to play the Cougars at Show Low on Tuesday and will compete in the Wolves Classic Tournament at Goodyear Thursday through Saturday.
