Holbrook’s Lady Roadrunners won their opening round in their 3A North Regional Tournament Game on Tuesday afternoon against fifth seeded Chinle, 11-5.
The Lady Roadrunners, who are seeded fourth, led just 3-1 through four innings, but a big output in the fifth frame gave them five runs and put them into the lead for good. They added three more insurance runs in the sixth, but didn’t need them with Kellin Bakurza controlling things on the hill.
Bakurza pitched 62/3 innings, facing 36 batters. She gave up just three runs, only one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks. Janecia Nez pitched the final third of an inning, giving up two runs on two hits with one walk.
At the plate PJ Gabaldon led the team, going four for five with two RBIs, stole one base and scored once. Erin Aragon was two for four, also stole one base and had two RBIs. Jessica Paz went two for two including a double, walked once, stole a base, had three RBIs and scored two runs. Shantina Kinlicheenie was one for three with a sacrifice RBI and scored once. Aaren Billie went one for four and scored twice. Alizia Foster went one for three with an RBI and scored a run. Sheriesse Thomas was one for two and scored once. Cherokee Yellowhair went one for three with an RBI and scored once. Tess Baldonado was zero for three, but was hit once by a pitch, had one RBI and scored a run.
