The Winslow School District Governing Board voted unanimously June 15 to instruct its delegate to the Arizona School Boards Association’s delegate assembly to support the resolutions recommended by the ASBA. The members had received those recommendations at their last meeting and voted to support the recommendations.
An item calling for an executive session for legal advice regarding a notice of claim was pulled from the agenda in the board’s first action of the brief meeting.
The board approved the hiring of coaches, volunteers and activities sponsors as listed on material provided to the board by Winslow High School Principal Chris Gilmore. Transfers were also approved for Don Cook to district custodian and groundskeeper from solely groundskeeper, Maurice Dunham to custodian and bus driver from the district warehouse, Eddie Joe Gonzales to part-time warehouse and on-call custodian from district full-time custodian, Michael Young to groundskeeper and bus driver from part-time driver and substitute, Jose Mora to groundskeeper and bus driver from district on-call custodian, and Kathleen Sutphen to kindergarten teacher at Bonnie Brennan School from first grade teacher.
The resignation or retirement of Salvador Hernandez as WHS track coach was accepted.
Two textbooks which have been on display the required amount of time were adopted for use at WHS.
L and J Consulting of Scottsdale was approved as sole provider for teacher training and materials, and Wireless Generation was approved as sole provider for DIBELS and Burst software and training.
A special meeting of the board was scheduled at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, for the approval of publishing the 2011-12 school year budget. The budget is expected to be adopted at a meeting on July 14.
Early release days for the 2011-12 calendar were approved. They are essentially the same as last year.
Finance Director Shirley Lomeli reported that the district is right on target with its financial situation.
