In preparation for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 10, the Joseph City School District Governing Board approved a long list of staff appointments and new hires July 12.

Northland Rural Therapy Services was awarded the contract for certified speech and language pathologist services, and Brittany Ward was hired to be a sixth grade teacher.

Other appointments for the upcoming school year include Teddi Baird as the 12th grade sponsor, business publications sponsor and Future Business Leaders of America sponsor. Trista Therman will share the 12th grade sponsor role.

Vera Baldwin, Gerri Buckley and Mary Davis will be substitute cafeteria workers.

Laurie Bowler will be the North Central Accreditation chairperson and National Honor Society sponsor. She will also serve as a 10th grade sponsor, along with Kourtney Hendricks and Joe Richards.

Richards will also be the Joseph City Junior High School Student Council sponsor.

The 11th grade sponsors will be John Bryant, Glenna Spurlock and Steve Marquez. Marquez will also be the Auto Club sponsor.

Jeri Edwards, Aaron Westover and Laura Mitchell will share ninth grade sponsor duties.

Mandy Bennett, Mary Davis, Dana Johnstun, Sam Johnstun, Dorothy Morris, Janella Perkins and Judy Young will be substitute custodians. Young and Perkins will also be maintenance workers.

Brit Ferguson was appointed to be a maintenance worker and bus driver. Esther Patterson will be a substitute bus driver.

Seventh grade sponsors will be Elmer Clare, Gerald Hansen and Eric Miller.

Kent Baldwin, Robert Pugh and Eugene Peplowski will share eighth grade sponsor duties. Peplowski will also be the Joseph City High School band and choral director, elementary music coordinator and auditorium coordinator. Pugh will also serve as the JCHS Student Council sponsor.

Kathy Williams will be a fourth grade teacher, and Mike Sterkowitz will serve as the activity director and JCHS junior varsity football coach.

Frances Monzingo will be the graduation coordinator.

In addition to approving appointments, the governing board also adopted the fiscal year 2012 budget, and held a truth in taxation hearing. The approved budget totals $5,359,461.

The next regular meeting of the governing board is slated at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
