Two people aboard a fixed-wing airplane died when their plane crashed during takeoff at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, at Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport.
According to the Winslow Police Department, the victims were Brian William Hayes, 35, of Chino, Calif., and Nicole Michelle Anderson, 32, of Simi Valley, Calif.
The small Mooney M20F single-engine aircraft reportedly landed upside down at the end of the runway and the two people onboard were killed on impact. Investigators concluded that the airplane had just taken off traveling in an eastwardly direction when it suddenly attempted to return to the airport, crashing on the east runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
