The Soccers squared off against the Cougars during Saturday’s AYSO soccer games at Hunt Park in Holbrook. The players included (front, left to right) Arianna Kissling, Harry Edwards, Jacob Bushman, (back) Jade Knight and Preston Edwards. There are 14 teams in the Holbrook AYSO league, which includes players from Holbrook, Joseph City and Woodruff. With nearly 160 players, this marks the third year of steady increases in enrollment in the youth program, which includes boys and girls ages 4 to 14. League Commissioner Mark Saxon credits the growth to parent satisfaction with the new direction of the Holbrook league, which balances participation by moving players among different teams each year, increasing competitiveness of the program, and instituting playoffs and championships in the older divisions. The soccer season began mid-August; playoffs will be held Oct. 1 and the annual Super Soccer Saturday will be on Oct. 8.
