Ruby Gardner McHood, 97, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, in Mesa. Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at the Winslow LDS Stake Center.
Ruby was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Snowflake. She lived in Lakeside, Show Low and Snowflake as a child, and moved to Winslow in 1936. There she worked as an “original” Harvey Girl at La Posada Hotel.
She met and married the love of her life Hubert “Mac” McHood on March 24, 1937. They moved into their home, where she lived the rest of her life. She loved to dance and travel, and was a cornerstone of Winslow history.
Survivors include her three sons, Gordon (Linda) of Winslow, Joel (Marilyn) of Winslow and Happy Jack, and Jim (Elizabeth) of Prescott; two brothers, Ralph Gardner of Layton, Utah, and McRae Gardner of South Jordan, Utah; one sister, Elaine Malone of Mesa; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, “Mac” McHood, her parents, two brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.
Norvel Owens Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
