Jim Hosteen Jr., 54, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, in Phoenix. Funeral services were held Sept. 26 at the Winslow Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pallbearers were Leon Ahasteen, Chris Ahasteen, Iran Lewis, Jacob Hosteen and Yazzie Charley. Burial followed in Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
He was born on May 11, 1957, in Keams Canyon to Jim and Mary Ahasteen Sr. His clans were Todicheenie born for the Natoh Dine Tachiinii. His Nali was Tabaha and Chei was Tsenijikini.
Jim loved riding horses, working cattle and loved helping his family, no matter what the need be. He was always a positive person no matter how hard the task was. He also participated in steer wrestling.
Survivors include his mother, Mary T. Ahasteen of St. Michael; a son, Jacob Hosteen of Crystal, N.M.; a daughter, Symmo Hosteen of St. Michael; four brothers, James Ahasteen of Ganado, Jack Ahasteen of Window Rock, Gary Ahasteen of Casa Grande and Larry Ahasteen of Ft. Defiance; and four sisters, Barbara Ahasteen, Susie Ahasteen, Lorraine Ahasteen and Sarah Ahasteen, all of St. Michael.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Ahasteen Sr.; three aunts, Phoebe R. Hill, Nona T. Newby and Millicent Kanuho; and five uncles, John Billy, Arlie Ahasteen, Woodie Ahasteen Sr., Louie Ahasteen and Mark Charley.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
