The Snowflake Lady Lobos dropped their first power point contest of the volleyball season last Wednesday, falling in five games at Payson.
“It is always good to be reminded of how bad it hurts to lose, but as a coach I hate to see our team lose. I knew Payson was a talented team. I think I made some coaching errors, but, hopefully, this loss will make our team stronger,” said Coach Alan Ramage.
“The season is young and we are still sitting at 7-1 overall. We will, hopefully, bounce back with some wins and a successful appearance at the Roughrider tournament in Pima this weekend.”
The Lady Lobos did bounce back in a big way this past weekend, winning their own tournament. Snowflake went unbeaten both in pool play and bracket play, eventually beating Payson in the championship match, 25-16 and 25-17.
In pool play on Friday, Snowflake defeated Show Low, 25-12 and 25-21. The Lady Lobos also took down Window Rock in three games, 24-26, 25-18 and 15-5. Snowflake defeated Holbrook in two games in an exhibition fill-in match, as well.
In the double elimination bracket on Saturday, the Lady Lobos defeated Holbrook again, 25-19 and 25-11. That win advanced them in the bracket, where they took down Mogollon 25-17 and 25-20. In the semifinal round Snowflake beat Payson 25-16 and 25-23. Payson then worked its way back through the loser side of the bracket with a win over Blue Ridge only to meet up with the Lady Lobos again in the title match.
The Lobos were scheduled to host Alchesay on Tuesday, then welcome Winslow on Thursday, Sept. 29. On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, they will be at the Pima Tournament. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, they will travel to Show Low.
