Summit Healthcare could break ground on a new specialty care center in Holbrook within the year.

The Holbrook City Council completed a land sale process Tuesday night with the final reading of an ordinance approving the sale of 1.6 acres of land to Summit Healthcare for $120,000.

Dr. Jeff Northup, Summit’s chief medical officer, said with the completion of the sale Summit will now engage Johnson Walzer Associates of Flagstaff to begin designing the medical center. Johnson Walzer designed the recently opened North Country Health Care Clinic, which will be adjacent to the Summit facility. Northup said the new 10,000-square-foot clinic would be designed to complement North Country.

Summit Healthcare will offer specialty services at the new clinic, including orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, otolaryngology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology and cardiology.

While the new center is being designed and constructed, a process that Northup expects to take about 20 months, Summit is providing specialty services at the former North Country Health Care facility located at 1401 W. Florida St.

Northup said several specialists are already working at the Florida Street building, which Summit is continuing to renovate.

Urology, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedic services are currently being offered, pulmonary medicine should be offered soon and gastroenterology services will start in January. Northup said Summit’s home health services will soon be operating from the facility, as well. Other specialty services will come on board as renovations are completed and necessary equipment is installed.

Summit will be seeking bids for contractor services in the near future, and Northup said the company’s policy is to use local contractors first, if they are available.

The total project cost is estimated to be about $2.2 million. Summit CEO Ronald McArthur has said he envisions an expanded medical campus in the future, with the possible addition of ambulance service and an urgent care clinic.
