Alice B. Yellowhair, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, in Winslow, Ariz. Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at the First Baptist Church in Winslow, with Pastor Guy B. Nez officiating. Interment followed in Desert View Cemetery in Winslow. Pallbearers were Stanley Yellowhair, Wilbert Yellowhair Jr., Ervin Begay, Delbert Begay, Christopher Begay and Randall Begay.
She was born on May 15, 1926, in Rabbit Springs, White Cone, Ariz. She was of the Towering House Clan. She went to Leupp School until the fourth grade.
Alice later became a rancher/farmer and married a Navajo Code Talker, the late Stanley Yellowhair. She always lived in White Cone at Rabbit Springs. She was a weaver, beader, tailor, rancher, joker, mother, wife, aunt, sister, grandmother and daughter. She loved Navajo jewelry and looking beautiful.
Survivors include her brother, Theodore Begay of Rabbit Springs; and three sisters, Lucy Begay of Dilcon, Ariz., (White Buffalo), Ruth Ann Jim of Ft. Defiance, Ariz., and Pauline Ben of Holbrook, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her only son, Wilbert Yellowhair Sr.; her mother, Hasbah Begay; her first grandson, Winfert Yellowhair; her grandson, Robert Jim; and a nephew, Conrad Jim.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
