The Winslow High School Bulldogs opened their 2011-2012 season at home with a 63-46 victory over the Williams Vikings.
The Bulldogs were to meet the Hopi High School Bruins at Polacca on Tuesday, and will host the Cake’s Car Company Shootout Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-3. The tournament will be followed by a rematch with the Hopi Bruins, this time at Winslow, on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
The Bulldogs came on strong after the Vikings had scored the first two baskets and had built a 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Winslow continued to play well in the second quarter and had a commanding 41-23 lead at the intermission. The lead was 51-32 after three periods of play. The fourth quarter was evenly played as the Bulldogs walked off with the victory.
The Bulldogs had even scoring as Tyler Williams and Tremayne Nez each scored 12 points. Brennan James was in double figures with 10 points. Josh Danny tallied nine for the victors and Michael Goldtooth scored eight points for the Bulldogs.
Alex Carew-Bourke of the Vikings took game scoring honors with 26 points, but no other Williams player scored more than six points and only five Vikings scored.
Winslow also had 11 players in the scoring column.

For Williams Jeff Brownlee scored 6, Quinn Walker 5, Alex Carew-Bourke 26, Jordan Berry 6 and Mychal Dennison 4.
Winslow Bulldog Michael Goldtooth scored 8, Tremayne William 2, Tyler Williams 12, Brennan James 10, Josh Donny 9, Lucas Shirley 3, Tremayne Nez 12, Donovan Warren 2, Timmy Little 1, Sheridan Wagoner 2 and Vincenzio Sells 2.
The Winslow junior varsity also easily bested the Williams junior varsity, 52-18, There was no freshman game and no girls games.
