The Lady Roadrunners returned to the court on Tuesday evening for the first time in over two weeks to play just their second game of the season. Facing the Lady Mustangs in Heber, it was clear early on that Holbrook had the better team. Despite a poor shooting night, the Lady Birds posted a double-digit lead in the first period and continued to control the game throughout, eventually picking up their second win of the season by a final of 51-13.

Holbrook played better on defense than on the offensive end of the floor in the first half.

“It was pretty ragged at times, especially on offense. In the second half, we did a much better job of executing our half-court zone offense, but we still missed far too many close range shots. Against the better teams in our division, those are shots we are certainly going to have to convert to give ourselves a fighting chance. I felt we were solid in our half-court man defense, especially in the second half,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “Mainly, it was just good to see the girls back on the court facing someone other than ourselves in practice. Obviously, our goal was to pick up another power point win and we accomplished that. Now we start a stretch of several games over the next three weeks.”

Aaren LaRose led the game in scoring with 12 points. Col’Bi Nez added 8, Jessica Paz, 7, Kaynasa Curley and Shandie Demuth, 6 each, Tamisha Yazzie, Kenalda Quintero and Samantha Smith, 3 each, Kellin Bakurza, 2, and Shantina Kinlicheenie, 1.

Holbrook made three treys and went just 6 for 14 at the free throw line.

Mogollon was led by Jessica Mayner with 5 points. The Lady Mustangs made just four field goals and went 5 for 16 at the free throw line.
