Returning to the floor after a two-week layoff, the Roadrunners of Holbrook High School wasted little time in building a decisive lead against the Mustangs in Heber on Tuesday evening.
Holbrook gave up just one field goal to an over matched Mogollon team through the first eight minutes while compiling a 14-point lead.
That lead expanded in the second with Torrian Epps and Ryan Baldonado combining for 12 of Holbrook’s 20-point output, helping the Birds to a 36-13 halftime lead.
The third period was closely played in terms of scoring. Holbrook posted 19 points, with Rashaun Baldwin and Jalen Jackson each netting six. Mogollon had its best eight minutes of the game, scoring 17 in the frame, but still trailed by a large margin.
In the final quarter Holbrook put up another 20 with several bench players doing most of the scoring, pacing the team to a 2-0 start on the season with a 75-37 road win.
Epps led the team with 17. Jackson added 16, Baldwin, 9, Bryson Keoni, 7, Dakota Lester and Baldonado, 6 each, Jimrail Manygoats and Decoven Adams, 3 each, and Seth Hadley, Sheldon Silversmith, Jesse Spangler and Frank Martin, 2 each.
Holbrook made 5 of 8 free throws and four three-point shots. Mogollon converted 10 of 12 free throws and made one three-pointer.
