Cristina Chugg and Colton Taylor were appointed to the Snowflake Planning and Zoning Commission Jan. 10.
Three letters of interest were submitted by Snowflake residents interested in filling two seats on the commission, including Chugg, Taylor and Justin White. Chugg was present at the Jan. 10 meeting of the Snowflake Town Council, but Taylor was out of town, and White was sick and unable to attend the meeting.
“Each has agreed they would be willing to serve,” said Zoning Administrator Dale Call.
Chugg has experience in reading plat maps and working with the Navajo County website to determine property ownership and boundaries, and is familiar with state statutes regarding property ownership, easements and owners’ rights, because she had worked as a legal secretary for a real estate attorney.
Taylor has a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture and is a registered architect in Arizona. He is employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a project manager, and hires architects and contractors to construct new meeting houses and renovate existing places of worship in Northern Arizona and most of the state of New Mexico.
White’s letter in part stated, “I would like to be on the planning and zoning committee here in Snowflake. I would like to take the time from my life to help out if I am needed.” He noted that he has always been a part of community activities, and volunteered for different groups and organizations. When he was a high school senior, he was on a planning committee in Payson that focused on the future of the small town that was rapidly growing. He also has a background in development and construction.
In response to a question posed by Mayor Kelly Willis, Town Attorney Robert Hall explained that the ordinance did not state a specific amount of time a commissioner must reside in town limits.
Mayor Willis was concerned because White has lived in Snowflake for less than one year.
Chugg, who is presently serving as president of the Snowflake Academy Foundation, explained her background to the council members, noting, “I love to serve the town.”
Mayor Willis moved to appoint Taylor to the commission, and his motion was unanimously approved.
Councilman Chris Brimhall moved to appoint Chugg to the commission, and that motion also passed unanimously.
