Keith Irving “Kip” Pundt, 64, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, in Phoenix. Memorial services were held Jan. 16 at the Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Snowflake. The concluding service and interment immediately followed at the R.V. “Mike” Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
He was born May 15, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Irving Edwin Pundt and Jane Ethel Hart Pundt. In 1962 his family moved to Snowflake.
Kip graduated from Snowflake High School in 1965. He then worked at the paper mill for a while until he went to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona.
He met Candy Shugart, the love of his life, and the couple married in 1968.
They lived in Tucson for a year while Kip worked at St. Mary’s Hospital.
They moved back to Snowflake in 1969, where Kip worked at the Arizona State Highway Department. He started a tax service through H&R Block in the late 1970s that he operated for several years. In 1986 he began working for Kords Ambulance Service in Show Low as an EMT. In 1989 he started working for what is now called Summit Health Care. He was also a part-time dealer at Hon-Dah Casino.
Throughout the years, he served on the Snowflake Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter, officer and on the retirement board.
He loved computer playtime, sci-fi movies, gardening and tending to his fish pond. He liked to play games and cards with his family, and had an avid interest in genealogy. He also enjoyed taking pictures of the outdoors and family members. He enjoyed working on pottery with his mother-in-law. He was a square dancing caller and loved to square dance.
Survivors include his wife, Candice Pundt of Snowflake; seven children, Paul (Alicia) Frazier of Louisville, Colo., Sheila (Bill) Baldwin of Taylor, Heather (Jack) Peterson of Phoenix, Tracy (Rodger) Bywater of Mesa, Donovan (Lisa) Pundt of Snowflake, and Lacey and Katie Pundt, both of Snowflake; 14 grandchildren; three siblings, Gary (Mindy) Pundt and Jeff (Debbie) Pundt, both of Tucson, and Brian (Shirley) of Valencia, Calif.; and his mother, Jane Pundt of Tucson.
He was preceded in death by two children, Dustin and Chad Pundt; one grandchild; a brother, Steven Pundt; and his father, Irving Pundt.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Snowflake was in charge of the arrangements.
