The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Page Lady Sand Devils in a game played in Winslow on Thursday and the Coconino Lady Panthers in a game at Flagstaff the following night. The victory improved Winslow’s record to an impressive 21-3 for the season.

Page and Winslow were tied at 9-9 after a low scoring first quarter and Winslow led 20-19 at the half. The third period was the best of the contest for the Lady Bulldogs as they built a 33-24 lead in that quarter. The final period was played on even terms as the Lady Bulldogs walked off with the 41-32 victory.

Mattea Begaii led all scorers with 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs and was the only Winslow player in double figures. Corey Nez scored 9 and Kiersten Nezzie had 8 for the victors.

Melanie Williams was the only Page player in double figures with 12 points.

Winslow led Coconino 16-10 after the first quarter and had a 33-18 halftime lead. The margin was a commanding 57-24 after three quarters and the game was essentially over. The final score was 59-34.

Mattea Begaii led all scorers with 21 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Riley Hanneman of the Lady Panthers was the only other player in double figures. Kiersten Nezzie and Corey Nez scored 9 each for the Lady Bulldogs.

Winslow will complete the regular season on Friday, Feb. 3, against the Lady Warriors in Tuba City. The Lady Bulldogs will make the state playoffs and are likely to host a first round game.
