The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Apprehension Team (MCAT) had a very productive year in 2011 with the confiscation of more than 844 pounds of illegal drugs with a total street value of more than $1.8 million.

MCAT is a multi-agency law enforcement team comprised of officers from the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Winslow, Snowflake-Taylor and Show Low police departments. It includes a federal partnership with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), which funds a portion of the task force.

During the 2011 calendar year, detectives from MCAT, removed the following quantities of illegal drugs from Navajo County: marijuana, 755 pounds with a street value of $738,087; methamphetamine, 27 pounds with a street value of $339,924; heroin, 41 pounds with a street value of $573,061; cocaine, 21 pounds with a street value of $75,900; crack cocaine, .18 grams with a street value of $1,805; marijuana plants, 201 with a street value of $100,050; ecstasy, seven dosage units with a street value of $70; hashish, .235 grams with a street value of $2,140; and illegal prescription drugs, 338 dosage units with a street value of $3,380.

These drug seizures are based on MCAT’s investigations in all cities, towns, rural portions of the county, Interstate 40, and other roadways throughout Navajo County, and 462 suspects were arrested in connection with the drug seizures.

Sheriff Kelly “KC” Clark stated, “I am extremely pleased with MCAT’s efforts to make Navajo County a safer place to visit and reside. Drug dealers need to be aware of our task force, and we will do everything we can to apprehend these suspects if they choose to break the law.”
