The Lady Wildcats have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Division IV state basketball tournament after downing St. Michael 63-28 on Friday night at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
Sixth seeded Joseph City had few problems against a team they had beaten twice during the season, although not by as large of a margin.
Joseph City will now face No. 3 Green Fields at 12 noon on Thursday, Feb. 23, once again in Prescott Valley. Green Fields dismantled No. 14 Scottsdale Prep 59-22 in their second round meeting. The Lady Griffins have compiled an impressive mark of 26-3 on the season, although they haven’t faced the caliber of teams the Lady Wildcats had on their schedule.
With a win the Lady Cats would move to the final four, where they would meet up with either No. 7 Fort Thomas or No. 2 Arizona Lutheran at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
The other four teams still alive in the upper half of the bracket include No. 1 Tempe Prep, No. 8 Duncan, No. 5 Joy Christian and No. 13 Salt River.
If the Lady Wildcats earn a berth in the title game, they would play at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
