The Wildcats’ season come to a close in the Division IV state tournament on Friday as they fell 62-44 to No. 4 Arizona Lutheran Academy. The Cats upset St. Gregory in the first round, but they were unable to keep that momentum going, wrapping up their season with an overall mark of 11-17.
Through the first quarter it looked as if the Cats were headed for another upset win, but when they scored just three points in the second, that turned the tide. Arizona Lutheran clamped down on defense in the second half to move on to Thursday’s quarterfinal round.
“We started out the game playing very well. We hit a lot of free throws in the first quarter and were up 18-13. In the second we only scored three, which really hurt us. They did a great job on defense and deserve a lot of credit,” noted Coach Eric Miller.
Daniel Bushman had a solid game, scoring 14 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. He also went six for six at the free throw line. Jacob Fields netted 12. Wyatt Bain added 10 with two three-point shots. Austin Gardner gave the Cats solid minutes with his defense.
