Jean (Hofer) Justman, 58, of La Crescent, Minn., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, after a courageous, 19-month battle with cancer, with family members at her side. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 o’clock tonight (Feb. 24) at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home, with Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating, and will be preceded by a visitation at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in La Crescent.
Jean was born on Jan. 1, 1953, to Edward and Lillian (Jolivette) Hofer in La Crosse, Wis.
On April 28, 1984, she married Joseph J. Justman in Mindoro, Wis., and they lived in La Crosse, Wis., for eight years before moving to La Crescent in 1993.
She attended St. Thomas More and Aquinas High Schools in La Crosse. Upon graduating, she obtained her cosmetology license and worked at several La Crosse hair salons before taking a managerial job at the then fledgling salon/retail chain Trade Secret in La Crosse’s Valley View Mall. She went on to become regional manager with the company and saw it grow from a couple of stores in Wisconsin to many stores across the Midwest. After the sale of Trade Secret to Regis, Jean took a position with Xerox at Trane Company doing meter reads, cleaning and doing small repairs on copy machines. As business expanded she was promoted to area manager, and serviced accounts in Rochester, Lake City, Winona and La Crosse. Jean was instrumental in growing Xerox’s business with Trane to a nationwide account with Trane’s current owner, Ingersoll-Rand. She earned top performance awards three times, with this year’s award being the Presidential Award for top sales growth, which would have included a future trip to Rome, Italy, to attend the award ceremony.
