Marcia Jean (Barsness) Sonnenberg, 84, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in San Dimas, Calif. Though the date is pending, burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, where her husband is buried.
Marcia was born July 12, 1927, in Faribault, Minn., to Ole and Carrie (Verdahl) Barsness. She grew up in Kenyon, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1945. She worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
On Jan. 7, 1948, she married Albert R. Sonnenberg Jr. They had a daughter, Wendy, and a son, Robin. The family moved to Orange, Calif., where they lived from 1951-69. Marcia and Al moved to Arizona and settled in Holbrook in 1974. Al died in 1980.
Marcia worked at Cablecom (Time Warner) until she retired in 1990. She was an active member at Peace Lutheran Church in Holbrook.
In 2004, she moved to Chino, Calif.
Survivors include her daughter, Wendy (Ron) Meyer of Mankato, Minn., and son, Robin (Dori) Sonnenberg of Chino; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, JoAnn Dube of Faribault; four sisters-in-law, Joan Barsness of Burnsville, Minn., Anita Kemp of Orange, Calif., Joan Sonnenberg of Corona, Calif., and Marguerite Sonnenberg of Hemet, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; Manton, Walter, Orville and Roy Barsness; and four sisters, Alice Jacobsen Schwartz, Grace Korsten, Frances Johnson and Janet Wohlfiel.
May Marcia be remembered for being thoughtful, caring, and generous–a good friend to many. May she rest in peace.
