William Eugene “Gene” Probst, 86, died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale following a lengthy illness. A funeral service celebrating the life of this great man will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 360 N. First Ave. in Holbrook. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Holbrook Cemetery.
Gene was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Holbrook to the late Fredrick Eugene and Elda (Ralston) Probst. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. As lifelong residents of Holbrook, Gene and his wife, Virginia, enjoyed many years of friendship with the Holbrook community.
During World War II, Gene served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. His family was so proud of the sacrifices that he made during those difficult years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Holbrook; four daughters, Julie, Debbie, Caroline and Patti; and six grandchildren.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook was in charge of the arrangements.
