With snow on the ground in Eager, Holbrook’s game against Round Valley originally scheduled as a road game was moved to Holbrook where the Birds shut out the Elks 8-0 on Monday afternoon.
There may not have been snow on the ground, but snow was flying across the field on a cold and miserable day to be playing baseball for both teams. Neither team could master each other or the weather conditions through the first three scoreless innings. Finally, in the top of the fourth, with Holbrook on the scoreboard, they were able to push across three runs. The Birds added five more in the sixth to seal the deal and get their fourth power point win of the season against just three losses.
The Roadrunners connected for 13 hits in the game, led by Ryan Baldonado who went three for three with a double, two RBIs and scored once. Shawn Gillespie went three for four, also hitting a double, with one RBI and one run scored. Javier Quintana was two for four with two RBIs and scored once. Michael Kennedy walked once and later scored. Dylan Barela went one for four with an RBI. Jesse Spangler was one for four with an RBI and scored once. Jacob Baker also went one for four with an RBI and scored a run. Levi Reyes was one for four and scored a run. Robert Jaquez went one for two and scored.
Jesse Spangler pitched a complete game facing 28 batters. He allowed no runs on just three hits with one walk and 10 strike-outs.

After hosting Snowflake on Thursday afternoon, the Roadrunners will welcome Window Rock on Saturday for a double header game in what should be much better weather. Those games will mark the final games for the Roadrunners prior to spring break. Holbrook will resume action on April 3 with a road game at Joseph City. April 5-7, they will be at the Estrella Foothills Tournament in Goodyear. Holbrook was 4-7 overall heading into this week’s action.
