The Winslow High School speech and debate team earned four state championships last weekend as WHS hosted the event that included 200 entries. Schools from all areas of the state were represented in the 1-3A Arizona Interscholastic Association State Speech and Debate Tournament. Winslow, the only school repre-senting northeastern Arizona, ranked fifth in the tournament with only nine team members.

WHS champions included Josh Cirre for Poetry and Prose; Emmett Foster, Dramatic; and Daniel Lane, Humor. The duo interpretation team of Brittany Fischer and Emmett Foster placed fourth. All other entries earned semi-final status.

Other WHS entries competing in the tournament were: Alexis Sievers and Emmett Foster in Public Fo-rum Debate; Brittany Fischer, Allen Messer and Alexis Sievers, Original Oratory; Allen Messer, Impromptu; Nathaniel Renney, Dramatic Interpretation and Duo Interpretation; Laura Smith, Humor; Seth Jennings, Prose; and Nathaniel Renney and Daniel Lane, Due Interpretation.

The team is coached by Sarah Smithson and Marianne Richardson.
