The Lobos split their final two baseball games before heading into a week off for spring break. Hosting Payson last Tuesday, Snowflake took down the Longhorns 9-3, avenging a road loss at Payson just a week earlier. Playing in Holbrook two days later, the Lobos gave up eight runs to the Roadrunners in the fifth and final inning of a 14-4 loss to their longtime rivals.

Tuesday’s home game with Payson started well, with the Lobos pushing across three runs in the first. Two more in the third and three in the sixth were more than enough to get the win with some solid pitching and good defense.

Payson collected only six hits and left one runner stranded. Snowflake collected 13 hits, but left nine on base.

Josh Kelley went two for three at the plate for Snowflake, with a double and a walk. Freddy Pinkley was one for three. Hunter Peterson went two for four with an RBI and scored twice. GR Adams was one for three with a walk and had one RBI. Jarom Beecroft scored three runs as a pinch runner. Braccin Tanner went two for four with an RBI and scored twice. Dallin Fusselman went one for four with an RBI. Ricky Montejano went two for four and scored twice. Nate Kelley was two for four with two RBIs.

Montejano was the winning pitcher with 42/3 innings of work. He faced 30 Longhorn batters, giving up three runs, only two earned, on five hits with six strikeouts. Tanner Yellowhair pitched 21/3 innings of relief, facing just eight batters. He allowed no runs on only one hit with four strikeouts.

Thursday’s road game at Holbrook started out well enough with the Lobos again opening the game with three first inning runs. They tacked on another in the third, but that was all they could get off Holbrook’s Ryan Baldonado. The Roadrunners pulled ahead 6-4 with five runs in the third inning, then closed out the game under the 10-run rule with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lobos had 10 hits, led by Adams, who went three for three with two RBIs. Nate Kelley was also three for three. Peterson went one for three with an RBI and scored a run. Yellowhair was one for three with a double and scored a run. Tanner went one for three and scored. Montejano went one for three with a double.

Adams started the game on the hill and worked 21/3 innings, facing 11 batters. He gave up four runs, all earned, on two hits with one walk. Yellowhair worked two-thirds of an inning, facing 11 batters. He gave up six runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Fusselman pitched one inning, facing eight Roadrunner batters. He allowed four runs, three earned, on two hits with four walks.
