Cleve J. Holyoak, 95, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012 in Sierra Vista. Funeral services were held April 2 at the Heber Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial followed at the Heber Cemetery.
He was born on Dec. 7, 1916, in Clay Springs to Joseph Wilkine Holyoak and Jennie McFern McCleve Holyoak.
Cleve married his sweetheart, Erma Tanner Holyoak, on March 14, 1945, in Lawton, Okla. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2004.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa. He was a bodyguard to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Cleve loaded more logs on the Apache Sitgreaves National Forests than anyone else.
He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and he was well known for his gardening skills.
Survivors include his three children, Dennie K. (Bonnie) Holyoak of Sierra Vista, J. Farrel (Sharon) Holyoak of Overgaard and Kerry D. (Denise) Holyoak of Heber; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vonda Hancock of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
