The Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets edged the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 7-6 in a softball game played at Lakeside on Monday. The loss left Winslow with a record of 17-5 for the season and a plethora of games to play in the closing weeks of the season due to games postponed because of inclement weather.
Blue Ridge scored once in the bottom of the first inning and five times in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Winslow cut the margin with a run in the top of the third, but the Lady Yellowjackets got that run back in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Bulldogs plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the top of the seventh to get within a run of Blue Ridge, but saw the game end with the potential tying run stranded at second base.
Halle Hayes took a rare loss, giving up seven runs, six of which were earned, on eight hits.
The Lady Bulldogs had four hits and left seven runners on base. Taylor Baca was two for four with a double and a home run. Hayes was one for two. Jamie Bollin was one for three with a double.
