The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Coconino Panthers 13-3 in Flagstaff on Tuesday. The win improved Winslow’s record to an impressive 17-5 for the season and virtually assured the Bulldogs of favorable seeding for the state tournament. Winslow was to play the Chinle Wildcats in Winslow on Wednesday in the last game of the regular season.
Chris Garrett got the win working three innings and giving up three runs on five hits and five walks. Aaron Martin worked four innings in relief and was not scored on while giving up four hits and a walk.
The Bulldogs scored five runs in the top of the first inning and never were threatened. They added runs in the second and third innings, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and four in the top of the seventh. Coconino scored all of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning cutting the lead to 9-3.
Jon Bollin was two for two at the plate for the Bulldogs. Caleb Layden was four for five. Adrian Montoya was three for four. Aaron Martin was one for two. Matt Smith was two for five. Colton Corum and Vicenzio Sells were one for three. Chris Garrett was one for four with a double.
