Snowflake High School was well represented in the 2012 All-State Choir, with eight students participating, including Payge Flake, McKenzie Whittle, Sherilyn Clonts, Taylor Cole, Austin Webster, Spencer Davis, Lance Merrell and Todd Peterson. This is the third year juniors Cole, Spencer and Merrell have been selected, giving them an opportunity to be selected their senior year for a four-year sweep in the All-State Choir.

Sixty-seven schools from throughout the state participated in the All-State Choir event held April 26-28 at the University of Arizona in Tucson. A total of 700 to 800 students tried out for the All-State Choir, with the top 50 from each section (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) selected for a total of 200 choir members.

SHS Choir Director Mindy Flake noted that students were judged on sight reading and a solo, as well as a writ-ten exam. One requirement was that they had to audition and participate in the regional choir.

Prior to attending the three-day event, choir members were given music for seven songs, two in Italian, two in German, one in Spanish and three in English, which had to be memorized before going to Tucson.

You can enjoy accomplishments of music students from the Snowflake-Taylor area at the end of the year con-certs, including the choir concert that will be held on Tuesday, May 15, the instrumental concert on Wednesday, May 16, and the Madrigal concert on Thursday, May 17. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the Snowflake High School auditorium.
