Tyler Johnson paced the Snowflake track teams, claiming two individual state championships at the Division III State Track Meet held last Friday and Saturday at Mesa Community College.
Johnson won the 100 meter dash, making him the fastest runner in the state at the Division III level. His time of 10.90 was one one-hundredth faster than the second place runner. He also took first in the long jump event, traveling a distance of 23-04.5. His time of 22.50 in the 200 meter run was good enough to finish in fifth place overall.
Dustin Shumway was the only other Snowflake athlete to come home with an individual state title, earning his in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.26. He also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.22.
Hunter Farr finished ninth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.77 and 14th in the 200 meter dash in 23.23. He was 20th in the long jump, traveling 19-05.
In the 800 meter run, John Rodriquez was 15th in 2:02; and Joseph Cox, 19th in 2:05. Rodriquez then placed seventh in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:33.
Brit Smith placed 19th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.68.
The quartet of Joseph Cox, John Rodriquez, Kegan Kay and Jeffrey Hannon Brooks finished sixth in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 8:27.
Chase Walden finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 51-08 and was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 21-03.
J.T. Bradley finished 10th in the shot put with 47-02 and was ninth in the discus with a throw of 141-10. Reggie Peterson finished 12th in the shot with a toss of 45-10 and was also 12th in the discus with 132-07.
Everett Lunt finished 11th in the high jump, clearing 5-10 in fewer tries than Kegan Kay, who also cleared that height to place 16th. Kirt Solomon placed 18th in the event, getting up and over 5-08.
In the pole vault, Quentin Scott placed 10th with a jump of 12-06 and Raymund Shumway was 13th with 11-06.
Jessica Neff was the only Lady Lobo to finish in the top 10 in her event, placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 34-10. Danielle Hext was 11th in the event with a distance of 33-02. Neff also placed 20th in the discus with a throw of 80-11.
Melissa Allen placed 13th in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:03.
Kianna Natividad finished 21st in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.95. She also finished 22nd in the 300 meter hurdles in 51.46.
Kianna Natividad, McKenzie Wood, Kadi Johnson and Macie Rawlins teamed up to finished 16th in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 53.36.
Macie Rawlins was 21st in the high jump, clearing 4-08.
Kendall Brimhall finished 15th in the pole vault, getting over 8-06.
Kilee Richards placed 20th in the triple jump, covering a distance of 30-10.
Florence claimed the boys’ team title with 66 points, just one ahead of second place Higley.
Higley also won the girls’ team title, scoring 72 points.
