Norman F. Ellison departed this life to live with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the age of 91 years, six months and two days. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (May 25) at Norvel Owens Mortuary, located at 1505 W. Third St. in Winslow. Interment with military honors will conclude services at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
The son of the late Jess Ellison and Ruth Phillips Ellison Oliver, he was born Nov. 20, 1920, at Mammoth Spring, Ark.
Norman met his soulmate, Faye Maxwell, in Taos, N.M. They were united in marriage two short months later on Sept. 24, 1949. Norman and Faye have been the loves of each other’s lives for more than 62 happy years.
He proudly served in the Army during World War II. He was in the logging industry for many years, and worked as a mechanic for the City of Winslow before retiring in 1982. He loved to tinker on any and everything, spent enjoyable hours gardening during the summer months and especially enjoyed reading the Bible during his quiet down time.
Norman attended the Deliverance Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye; three daughters, Joyce (Richard) Oldenburg of Deming, N.M., Elaine (Allen) Rogers of Winslow and Norma (Steve) Lohide of Mesa; six grandchildren, Bobbie Winans-Calderon, Terri Winans, Nevada Smith, Dustin Smith, Keegan Lohide and McKenna Lohide; 14 great-grandchildren, Jelessya Winans, Brandon Calderon, Ileana Calderon, Sofia Calderon, Kyleen Gomez, Shiloh Stratton, Kaylee Smith, MacKenzie Smith, Rowdy Smith, Nevada III (Richie) Smith, Gracie Smith, Coy Baker, Cayden Smith and Wyatt Smith; and two great-great-grandchildren, Antonio Winans and Arianna Gomez.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lucille Dunbar.
