At approximately 12:39 p.m. on Monday, May 28, a fatal three-vehicle collision occurred on State Route 377 near Holbrook.
A Chevrolet sedan driven by Alisha Smith, 31, of Gallup, N.M., was northbound when her vehicle went off to the right shoulder, overcorrected and went head on with a Chrysler sedan driven by Charles J. Porter, 70, of Heber. The Chrysler then went off the southbound shoulder. The Chevrolet sedan continued northbound in the southbound lane and then struck a Chevrolet SUV, which rolled off the northbound shoulder. Porter was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Suzanne E. Porter, 70, of Heber was transported to Summit Healthcare for treatment of her injuries.
Smith had a five-year-old child in her vehicle. The child was in a car seat that was not buckled into the seat. The child was treated and released from the Little Colorado Medical Center in Winslow. No one in the Chevrolet SUV was injured.
Smith was booked into Navajo County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated DUI, six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a warrant.
