Daniel Emerson, 54, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in Henderson, Nev. A graveside service was held June 18 at Citizens Cemetery in Flagstaff.
His maternal clan was Banana (Yucca Plant) Tower Housing, and his paternal clan was Many Hogans/Bitterwater.
Daniel was born in Sacramento, Calif., to Constance Begay and Samuel Larry Emerson.
He went to Leupp Boarding School and then attended Tuba City High School, Greyhills.
Daniel met Jane Johnson and they went to Provo, Utah, where he attended Orme Utah Tech and studied heavy equipment.
He moved to Flagstaff, where he lived until 1986, then moved to Las Vegas, Nev., until 2012.
In 2010 he went back to school to receive an underground excavating license, and worked in underground excavation as a heavy equipment operator until his passing.
He enjoyed family outings. His hobbies were basketball, cross country, bull riding and team roping, and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play football and basketball.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Emerson; his father, Samuel Larry Emerson; two daughters, Jenell Emerson and Crystal Emerson; two sons, Lydell Emerson and Miles Emerson; three grandchildren, Pacen Nez, Aiden Emerson and Danyle Acothley; three sisters, Jennifer Tsosie, Tina Begay, Samantha Yazzie; a brother, Leroy Emerson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Begay.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
