A Keams Canyon man has died following a fall into Chevelon Canyon at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 28.
According to investigators with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Navasie, 37, was with his girlfriend and two friends when he was climbing down into Chevelon Canyon in an area near the Chevelon Canyon Bridge on Territorial Road east of Winslow Canyon. Navasie reportedly lost his footing and fell ap-proximately 60 feet into about five feet of water. His body never resurfaced. The Joseph City Fire Department Rope Rescue Team responded and with the help of rescue divers from the Winslow Fire Department, recov-ered Navasie’s body.
Investigators are waiting on toxicology results from the autopsy, but believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the accident. The case remains under investigation, but officials say they do not believe foul play was involved.
