Chalcedony Lodge No. 6, F&AM, will host its annual barbecue on Monday, Sept. 3, at the Jeffers’ Ranch just north of Holbrook. The menu is deep-pit slow roasted beef with beans, slaw, fresh sweet corn and homemade desserts. Good weather has been promised, but if it rains, there is plenty of room for everyone in the barn. The barbecue will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the food runs out. Tickets are $9 per person.
During the barbecue, Worshipful Master Pete Johnson will provide musical entertainment by playing vintage 78 rpm recordings from his vast collection, including band music from the Sousa era, early jazz, polka and waltz selections, cowboy tunes and hillbilly music. Some recordings are over 100 years old.
The barbecue is the lodge’s major fundraiser of the year, as well as an opportunity to get together and socialize. All of the proceeds go toward community activities, including the lodge’s Clothe-a-Child program at Christmastime, the annual Masonic Essay Contest and local scholarships. In 2011, the lodge helped provide school clothing for 30 children, and in the spring of 2012, donated two bicycles to the graduation night program.
Everyone is welcome to attend the barbecue. Limited local deliveries will also be offered. For delivery, call (928) 241-1827, 241-0113 or 241-8620 on the day of the barbecue.
