The Holbrook’s cross country teams opened the season Aug. 28 afternoon at the Hopi High School Invita-tional.
Tuba City won the boys’ team title with just 34 points. Page was second with 68 and Winslow finished third with 102. The Roadrunner boys placed sixth as a squad in the 14-team field with 199 points.
Shawn Tsinnijinnie of Tuba City took the top individual honor with a time of 17:03.
Kyle Chee was the top runner for the Birds, finishing the 3.1-mile course in a time of 19:03, good enough for 22nd place overall. Mark Clark was 25th in 19:22; Marcos Clark, 26th in 19:23; Coy Begay, 62nd in 21:16; Shane Thomas, 64th in 21:17; and Ryan Bia, 65th in 21:22. Ninety-five runners completed the race.
Hopi claimed the girls’ varsity team title with 64 team points. Page was a close second with 69 and North-land Prep followed in third with 100. Jayde Secody of Page won the meet with a time of 21:27.
Col’Bi Nez was the only runner for Holbrook in the girls’ varsity race. She placed 12th overall with a time of 22:55 in a field of 85 runners.
In the girls’ open division race, Holbrook was paced by Tanisha Yazzie, who finished sixth overall with a time of 26:22. Charmayne Yazzie was 19th; Morgan Zahne, 38th; Latanya Lano, 43rd; and Patricia Mitchell, 44th. Seventy-four runners competed in the junior varsity race.
