Two men have been hospitalized following an apparent botched robbery attempt that occurred at a resi-dence in Wagon Wheel.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, Navajo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of a reported robbery at a home located on B Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two suspects, one an uni-dentified 22-year-old Mesa man who had been shot in the head, and Scotty Ryan Chism, 19, of Casa Grande and Lakeside, who had been shot in the torso. The first suspect was transported to a Phoenix hospital and was reported in stable condition on Wednesday. Chism, 19, was taken to Summit Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and was released late that evening.
Upon release, Chism was charged with armed robbery, burglary, two counts of kidnapping and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Charges against the other suspect will be sought through the Na-vajo County Attorney’s Office.
Detectives interviewed friends, family members, neighbors, roommates and associates of those involved in the incident before arresting Chism.
The owner of the home has not been identified, and was not injured during the incident.
