The Winslow Bulldogs rolled over the Hornets 48-0 at Ganado on Friday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 3-1. Ganado fell to an even 2-2 for the season.
Winslow scored first on a 55-yard run by Kelly Wood. Lucas Jordan booted the conversion for a 7-0 lead. The new kicker for the Bulldogs booted his first field goal for Winslow’s next score and a 10-0 lead. Quarterback James Martinez then ran 18 yards for a touchdown and Jordan’s conversion gave the Bulldogs a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Wood scored his second touchdown of the game on a 67-yard run that gave Winslow a 24-0 lead after Jordan’s conversion. Wood followed that score with a 44-yard romp for his third touchdown and a 31-0 lead after the conversion.
The Bulldogs were in full control as freshman Hakeem Foster ran 17 yards to complete a 73-yard scoring drive and a 38-0 halftime lead after Jordan’s conversion.
Foster scored his second touchdown on a one-yard plunge, moving the margin to 45-0 after Jordan’s conversion. That score caused the rest of the game to be played with a running clock and from this point the Bulldogs were content to run the clock and hold down the score.
Jordan booted another 20-yard field goal for the last score of the game and a 48-0 Winslow victory. For most of the rest of the game the Winslow bench was content to run the clock. Jordan narrowly missed a 40-yard field goal attempt.
The Bulldogs are slated to host the Chinle Wildcats in their homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 21. Chinle lost to the St. Johns Redskins 34-6 last week to drop to 1-3 for the season.
