The Snowflake Town Council unanimously approved a delegation agreement with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Sept. 11, essentially renewing the town’s power to issue burn permits.
The current agreement with ADEQ is nearing expiration. Without it, residents would be required to submit a request to burn to ADEQ six months prior to the day of burning, and if there was inclement weather and they were unable to burn that day, the permit would have to be requested again.
The agreement “allows us to do it in-house,” said Snowflake Fire Chief Pat Hancock, noting burn permits are obtained through the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department and when residents plan to burn, they call to notify the department.
