The Winslow Junior High School seventh grade football team continued its winning ways with a 36-6 victory over the Show Low seventh grade team on Sept. 19 at Winslow. The young Bull-dogs have gone undefeated to date with just one game left on the schedule.
Show Low opened the scoring after driving to the shadow of the Winslow goal post, losing the ball on downs, but recovering a fumble about the six yard line and running into the end zone for a 6-0 lead after the run for conversion failed.
Winslow tied the score at 6-6 on a six-yard run by Ahli Forster. The conversion run failed. Foster scored again in the second quarter to give Winslow the lead on a 19-yard run. Jalen Lyons ran for the two-point conversion and a 14-6 Winslow lead at the half.
Mikel Bonner scored on a one-yard run for Winslow in the third quarter, and Foster ran for the conversion and a 22-6 lead.
Bonner scored again in the fourth quarter, and Foster ran for the two-point conversion and a 30-6 lead.
Show Low drove to within the Winslow 10 yard line, but disaster struck in the closing seconds as Foster picked off a pass and rambled 94 yards for the final score of the game. The conversion pass failed and the 36-6 final was on the board.
The seventh grade team is slated to end its season at Holbrook today (Sept. 26).
